Volunterring is an attractive option for countless people. . Numerous programs exist which allow participants to volunteer This book includes a comprehensive lsiting of local and some
overseas organisations to help you on the adventure. As an Australian Volunteer Abroad Peter Hodge left Australia in 1993 to teach mathematics and physics in Zimbabwe. Since his return in late 1995 he has devoted his free time to writing. At present he is working in Melbourne and the daily corss-cultural exchanges remind him of what made his time in Africa so special. "At 30 I wondered before setting out whether I shouldn't have made my trip several years earlier, but I soon realised that attitude is more important than age. The youngest volunteers I worked with were 18 and the oldest was 72" (Louise Fraser) There is no limit to the types of skills that can be put to good use. Building and restoration, childcare, national park track maintenance, teaching English, agricultural work and scientific research to name but a few. More often than not just being prepared to work har is enough. Most returned volunteers will say they got more out of the experience than they were able to contribute. As well as a comprehensive listing of Australian organisations and some overseas cotacts this book contains advice and stories from those who have volunteered, making this book very useful if you are considering volunteering overseas. It targets the Australian and New Zealand Volunteer. |
